As part of Allstate's continued commitment to developing digital skills in the Northwest, representatives from the company recently visited Strabane Academy and Strabane Primary School to see first-hand how learners are benefiting from the support provided through the NW Digital Hub initiative. The programme, launched to help expand digital capability and confidence among young people, has already equipped schools in the region with modern technology including LEGO robotics kits, VR headsets and iPads. These tools are enabling pupils to explore digital learning in new, engaging and hands-on ways.
At Strabane Academy, Allstate NI's Joy Chambers and Bernadette Haughey were welcomed by staff and pupils who demonstrated how the Digital Hub has transformed STEM learning. During the visit, pupils from St Catherine's Primary School took part in an interactive session using LEGO Spike Essentials Kits, working together to design and programme moving "taxis" featuring sound, motion and creative enhancements.
The Academy also showcased its use of LEGO Spike Prime robotics for more advanced engineering challenges, as well as ClassVR headsets that allow students to explore immersive environments — from WWI trenches to the human circulatory system. Teachers reported a significant increase in engagement, with pupils who typically struggle in traditional classroom settings showing noticeable improvement through immersive and practical learning.
The visit continued to Strabane Primary School, where staff demonstrated how pupils are using donated iPads for block-coding activities and digital art projects. The technology has given children new ways to express creativity, develop problem‑solving skills and build confidence as early digital learners.
Together, the visits highlighted the growing impact of the NW Digital Hub and reinforced Allstate NI's commitment to expanding digital opportunity across the region. By providing access to modern technology and supporting digital learning from an early age, the initiative is helping young people build the foundational skills they need for the future, and opening pathways into STEM fields that many may not have previously considered.
Allstate remains committed to investing in programmes that develop skills, fuel curiosity and strengthen local communities across Northern Ireland.
