How did you first hear about Allstate that made you want work here?
I heard about Allstate through a University tech talk. They spoke about the summer internship which sounded very interesting, particularly to get some hands-on experience and build up my CV — so I applied for it, was successful, and at the end of the Summer I was offered a placement!
What does a typical day look like?
I tend to work from home mostly so I can look after my 3 dogs. I have daily scrum meetings with my team where we discuss the work we did and any problems we're having. I'm currently onboarding to a project to work with data pipelines and also doing an Amazon Web Services (AWS) course on the side.
How did you find the transition from intern to placement career progression?
It wasn't as hard as I thought it would be. The internship built all the foundations I needed to step into the placement role. This meant I was able to jump straight into onboarding for some new projects, without having to spend weeks completing courses and general company onboarding.
What do you like about Allstate/ your role?
I really like the flexibility of hybrid working. Allstate NI does a monthly in-office day where they plan some special events and a free lunch, so I usually try to turn up for those. The free coffee (or tea or hot chocolate) from the cafe is also a big positive! And I have to say my team as well. They've all been incredibly supportive and welcoming.
Do you have any tips for applying to an Early Talent opportunity at Allstate?
Go through the criteria and make up some possible interview questions. Do some background research so you know what you're getting into and if it sounds interesting. Tech experience isn't everything — we did a group interview where soft skills played a massive part. Honestly, just go for it!
