Empowering Communities: Repurposing End-of-Life Laptops for Positive Impact

Published: January 4, 2023

Our new initiative 'Equipment for Good' is aimed at exploring ways to repurpose our end-of-life technological equipment, particularly laptops, for the betterment of our local community. Our key objective was to enhance sustainability while simultaneously supporting schools and charitable organizations.

In collaboration with Vyta, the company responsible for the secure disposal of our end-of-life equipment, we successfully refurbished laptops and distributed them to three charitable programs in our pilot phase; participants in the Citi Elevate program at Belfast Metropolitan College received fully operational laptops to aid them in their NVQ studies and beyond, contributing to their path towards employment. Additionally, the Women's Aid Foundation NI benefited from this initiative, and several schools are slated to receive donated laptops through Allstate, facilitated by the Integrated Education Fund.

Looking ahead to 2024, our plan is to evaluate the success of this pilot project and strategize on how we can expand and further contribute to the well-being of our charity partners and the local communities we serve.
