Published: October 8, 2025

As part of our ongoing Tech Titan series, we're highlighting the brilliant minds behind the technology at Allstate. This week, we're proud to feature Mark Miskimmin, a Senior Manager in Data Science, who shares his journey through the tech industry, what drives his passion for analytics, and what makes working in a digital product model so rewarding.

What first attracted you to Allstate, and what's kept you here?

I was initially drawn to Allstate because of its reputation as a respected local employer with a strong presence in the tech space. What really appealed to me was the chance to return to analytics, a field I've always been passionate about since the early days of my career. Over time, what's kept me here is the opportunity to work on impactful projects, surrounded by talented people who share a commitment to innovation and continuous improvement.

Tech Titans: Mark Miskimmin - Data Scientist - Senior Manager.

How has your career evolved since joining the tech industry?

My journey in tech began back in the mid-1990s as a Visual Basic developer. Since then, I've taken on a variety of roles, from Oracle database development to leading a software team focused on tactical billing solutions. I've also spent time on the business side, which gave me a broader understanding of how technology drives strategy. One standout experience was building all the direct marketing targeting models for my employer during the rollout of fibre broadband in Northern Ireland, a pivotal moment that combined data science with real-world impact.

What excites you most about working in a digital product model?

What I find most exciting is the mindset of continuous evolution. The digital product model encourages us to refine and enhance our solutions over time, which keeps the work fresh and forward-looking. I also enjoy the cadence of regular demos and the fast-paced nature of delivery. It creates a sense of momentum and shared purpose across the team.

Can you share a moment where you felt especially proud of your work?

One of the most memorable moments for me was during our early sprints. I was struck by how quickly we could deliver meaningful results using this way of working. It was incredibly rewarding to see our durable team come together with a shared goal and then watch that collaboration translate into tangible outcomes during the initial demos. It made me proud to be part of a team that moves with purpose and clarity.

How would you describe the culture at Allstate in one word, and why?

If I had to choose just one word, it would be Supportive. While words like Inclusive, Collaborative, and Innovative also reflect the culture well, Supportive really captures the essence of what it's like to work in the D3: Data Discovery & Decision Science Team. Whether you need advice, feedback, or just someone to bounce ideas off, there's always someone willing to help. That spirit of mutual support makes a big difference in how we work and grow together.
