Tech Titans: Kelley O'Reilly Smith — Digital Product Manager

What sparked your journey into product, and how did it lead you to your current role at Allstate?

I joined Allstate through the non IT graduate programme with a BA in Psychology and began my career coding in COBOL on a mainframe team. As both my interests and the company evolved, I moved across several functions and ultimately found myself in strategic data roles — where I discovered a strength for synthesising insights and making data driven decisions at both macro and micro levels.

Product management became the natural next step. I love being able to shape the strategic direction of a product while still diving into details when needed — it lets me operate end to end and stay connected to the full picture.

2. What's the most meaningful challenge your product team is focused on right now?

Our team within the Digital Contact Center organisation supports capabilities that span the entire enterprise — everything from outbound sales campaigns to quality management for claims and service calls. Because of this breadth, our work has a meaningful impact on both customer experience and operational efficiency.

The biggest challenge — and opportunity — we're focused on right now is enabling Agentic AI for reps, sales, and call quality. Our efforts are showing promising improvements in efficiency and customer experience.

3. How has working in a product-led model shaped the way you think about building solutions?

Working in a digital product model has fundamentally shaped how I prioritise and articulate value. My previous experience delivering ASC Auto States as a cohesive digital insurance product gave me a holistic perspective: customers don't experience individual features — they experience the entire insurance journey, from purchase to policy management to claims.

That viewpoint continues to guide how I approach my current product work. I always consider the broader customer experience and how our product fits into the overall Allstate ecosystem, not just our team's specific domain.

4. What's something you've learned from your team recently that's influenced how you work?

Something I've learned from my team recently is just how strong the bonds we build at work can be — even when we're scattered across different countries and have never met in person. We lost a teammate a few weeks ago, and feeling that loss really showed me how connected we had become. It reminded me that great teams aren't just about collaboration or getting things done; they're about the relationships we build, the way we support each other, and the genuine care that grows over time.

I'm grateful to be part of a team that shows up for each other every single day — in the big moments and the small ones

5. What's one habit, tool, or mindset that helps you stay organised and creative in a busy role?

I'm a natural tinkerer and love finding ways to improve how teams work. I keep an ongoing list of potential enhancements I notice in our daily operations. When one stands out as especially impactful, I carve out time to explore it — getting creative, testing ideas, and delivering quick wins.

These small bursts of creative problem solving give me energy, provide balance, and help keep my perspective fresh when tackling bigger, more complex challenges.
